Most market updates are a wall of numbers nobody finishes. The good ones answer one question: what does this mean for me? Here is how to make market updates that homeowners actually read.
Pick three numbers, not ten
Choose the metrics your audience cares about most:
- Median sale price (and the change from last month or last year).
- Days on market: how fast homes are selling.
- Inventory or months of supply: whether it is a buyer’s or seller’s market.
Pull them from your MLS or local association reports, and always say where the data came from and what area it covers.
The five-slide market update carousel
- Cover: “[City] market update: [Month]” with one bold headline insight, for example “Homes are selling faster.”
- Price slide: median price and change, with a simple arrow.
- Speed slide: days on market.
- Supply slide: inventory and what it means.
- So what slide: one takeaway for buyers, one for sellers, and a call to action.
Translate numbers into meaning
Compare these two lines:
- “Months of supply: 2.1.”
- “There are only about two months of homes for sale. Well-priced homes are getting multiple offers.”
The second one tells people what to do with the information. Always add the “so what”.

Formats beyond the carousel
- 60-second Reel: you on camera explaining one number and what it means.
- Story quiz: “Did prices go up or down this month?” then reveal the answer.
- Neighborhood snapshot: zoom in on one area people search for.
- LinkedIn version: a more detailed post for professionals and referral partners. See LinkedIn carousels for realtors.
Design tips
- One number per slide, as large as possible.
- Use the same colors for “up” and “down” every month.
- Keep the same layout each month so followers recognize the series.
- Add a small note with the data source and date range.
