Your profile grid is your storefront. When someone visits, they decide in seconds whether you look worth following. A planned grid makes that decision easy. Here are 12 layouts and how to pull them off.
A note on the current grid
Instagram’s profile grid now shows posts in a taller, portrait crop rather than squares. Design feed posts at 1080 x 1350 or 1080 x 1440 and keep key content in the center so it looks good both in the feed and on your profile. Always preview before you rely on a layout.
1. Checkerboard
Alternate two post types, for example a photo then a text graphic. Simple, balanced and easy to maintain.
2. Row themes
Each row of three shares a theme: a tip, a photo and a quote. Works well if you post in sets of three.
3. Color story
Every post uses the same small palette. The most flexible layout because it does not depend on order. Pick a palette from our 30 Canva color palettes.
4. Column layout
The middle column is always the same type of post, such as quotes. Requires posting in groups of three.
5. Borders and frames
Every post sits inside the same white or colored frame. Instantly consistent with very little effort.
6. Puzzle grid
One large image split across several posts. Eye-catching but hard to maintain, so use it for launches rather than every day.
7. Rainbow transition
The grid slowly shifts from one color to another over weeks. Great for creative brands with flexible content.
8. Light and dark alternating rows
A light row, then a dark row. Gives a rhythm and makes text posts stand out.
9. Photo-first with text accents
Mostly photography with an occasional bold text post as a visual break.
10. Series covers
Reels covers and carousels follow color-coded series, so visitors can spot tips, tours and reviews at a glance. See our Reels cover guide.
11. Minimal white space
Lots of empty space, simple typography and calm photos. Ideal for luxury and wellness brands.
12. Template-led
Every post comes from the same template family, giving instant consistency. This is the easiest layout to keep up long-term.
