How to Schedule Social Media Posts with Canva Content Planner

How Canva's Content Planner works for scheduling Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest posts, how it compares to Meta Business Suite, and a simple scheduling routine.

How to Schedule Social Media Posts with Canva Content Planner

Designing in Canva and then downloading, uploading and posting by hand adds friction. Canva’s Content Planner lets you schedule designs directly to connected social accounts. Here is how it works and when another tool may suit you better. Features and supported platforms change, so check Canva’s help center for the current list.

What the Content Planner does

  • Shows a calendar of scheduled posts.
  • Lets you schedule a design with a caption to connected accounts.
  • Supports major platforms such as Instagram business accounts, Facebook Pages, LinkedIn and Pinterest (the list varies).
  • Is available on paid Canva plans.

How to schedule a post

  1. Open your finished design.
  2. Click Share, then choose the option to schedule or post to social.
  3. Connect your account the first time (Instagram must usually be a business or creator account linked to a Facebook Page).
  4. Select the page or pages of the design to post.
  5. Write your caption and hashtags.
  6. Pick a date and time, then schedule.

Canva Content Planner vs Meta Business Suite

Canva Content Planner Meta Business Suite
Cost Paid Canva plans Free
Platforms Several networks Instagram and Facebook
Workflow Schedule right from the design Upload exported files
Insights Limited Detailed for Meta platforms

If you only post to Instagram and Facebook, Meta Business Suite is free and very capable. If you post across several networks and already pay for Canva, the Content Planner removes a lot of uploading.

A weekly scheduling routine

  1. On Monday, check the calendar for gaps.
  2. Fill gaps from your batch of finished designs.
  3. Add one or two timely posts for anything happening that week.
  4. Leave Stories to post live, since they work best in the moment.

When to post

There is no universal best time. Check your own Instagram Insights for when your followers are most active, schedule around those windows for a month, then compare results. Consistency matters more than the perfect minute.
